Bakhita Al Mheiri
Emirates Airline First Officer
Bakhita Saif Al Mheiri joined Emirates in 2011 with the national cadet programme. Since
that moment she has gone on to complete a 12-month course at the Emirates Aviation
College in Dubai, before completing almost two years in Spain for her ATL.
In December 2015, she graduated with 80 other cadets, and was officially pronounced as a first officer of the Boeing 777 fleet for Emirates Airline.
She has travelled across the world through her work, experiencing numerous different traditions and cultures as well as sharing her own culture and beliefs with the world. Because of her unique position as being one of only a handful of Emirati First Officers, Bakhita has been the subject of a high level of interest from the media in the UAE. She has appeared on the cover of the official magazine of the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre, Majarat, with an extended feature in the magazine itself. She has also been featured on Emirates 24/7, and a number of other online news feature sites, each keen to learn about her story.
Bakhita is representative of the next generation of Emirati women, exemplifying the cultural shift the UAE has witnessed over the last few decades as the country has opened up and empowered women to take high pressure, high powered jobs in government and private organisations. In her short career, she has inspired other young girls to follow a similar career path and believe that if they want to achieve something, it can be in reach with the right determination and commitment.
